Marine containment boom for pollution marine containment booms are an impervious barrier designed to deflect or contain marine spills or floating debris. With their standard closed cell foam flotation chamber and a continuous skirt below the surface, these booms perform very well in rough weather and can be used for short or long term deployment for marine containment in harbours, rivers, ponds, dams and other open waterways.

Containment Booms

JJ Industries marine containment booms are an impervious barrier designed to create marine containment barriers to deflect or contain marine spills or floating debris. These booms are sometimes also referred to as an oil containment boom, spill containment boom or floating containment boom.

Containment Booms are used to reduce the possibility of polluting shorelines and other resources and to help make recovery easier. Booms help to concentrate oil in thicker surface layers so that skimmers, vacuums, or other collection methods can be used more effectively. They come in many shapes and sizes, with various levels of effectiveness in different types of water conditions.

Containment Booms are often the first containment method to be used and the last equipment to be removed from the site of an oil spill, they are “the most commonly used and most environmentally acceptable response technique to clean up oil spills

Booms used in oil spills can be seen as they rest on the surface of the water but can have a skirt of almost any custom length hanging beneath the surface.

Jay & Jay Industries Containment Booms are made in Australia & designed for Australia’s tough conditions & these booms perform well in rough weather & can be used for short or long-term deployment.

Containment Booms ensure containment of free-floating liquid spills; they can also be used in spill response for oil spill management & oil containment. Jay & Jay Industries can also manufacture Containment Booms with Boom Reel & storage systems.

Containment Booms are available in any custom shape & size & Jay & Jay Industries are committed to working with our clients to ensure the correct design is used for their application.

Jay & Jay Industries offer all ranges of involvement in the supply of Containment Booms, from the simple supply of a Containment Boom to working with our clients from the design stage to installation & removal.

There are 4 main sections to Jay & Jay Industries Containment Boom;

Floats:
The freeboard has a continuous internal float created from oil and weather resistant closed cell foam encased in a continuous PVC chamber.

Skirt:
The skirt is the draft or the part that is below the water surface once deployed. The skirt is impervious. It’s a continuation of the same material used to create the float chambers.

Ballast:
The continuous ballast is created by encasing galvanized chain in a pocket at the bottom of the skirt. The ballast is continuous and runs the full length of the skirt.

Connectors:
There are connectors on either end of the sections to join booms together. These are an industry standard ASTM Connector made of galvanized steel. The connector ensures quick, simple and reliable joining of boom sections.

Jay & Jay Industries also offer the design & supply of anchoring for your chosen Containment Boom. Jay & Jay Industries have supplied a range of anchoring options in the past; from a simple pre-formed concrete block to a fully engineered stainless steel anchor.

There are 4 main tactics when installing a Containment Boom;

Containment booming – Placing a boom in a body of contaminated water for the purpose of holding or slowing the movement of contamination.

Diversion booming – Placing a boom in a body of contaminated water for the purpose of diverting the contamination to a collection point.

Deflection booming – Placing a boom in a body of water for the sole purpose of changing the course of the contamination. This method is used for contamination that is not intended to be recovered, and therefore not typically associated with oil spills.

Exclusion booming – Placing a boom in a body of water for the purpose of blocking off a sensitive area from contamination.
